Ponte Vedra wins state baseball title

Ft. Myers, Fla. – Ponte Vedra won the 5A baseball championship over Estero 6-2 in nine innings today.

The Sharks scored four times in the top of the ninth using back to back singles by Brett Polling and Walker Sheller to plate the runs. Sheller was three for four with 3 RBI while also closing out the game on the mound.

Ponte Vedra forced the extra frames when Max Miller drove in Joey Chrabot in the top of the 7th.

Ponte Vedra is the first local team to win a state championship in baseball since Englewood in 1999 and the first team from St. Johns County since Ketterlinus in 1954.

The Sharks got to the championship game by upsetting nationallly ranked Tampa Jesuit in the semifinals.
