Ribault girls rolls to 12th state basketball title

The Trojans beat Lakewood 72-31 to win the class 6A state title Saturday.

LAKELAND, Fla. – From the opening tip, number 12 was never in doubt for the Ribault Lady Trojans.

They led Lakewood from start to finish, winning 72-31 to capture the 6A title, their 12th state championship in school history.

McDonalds All-American and Tennessee commitment Rennia Davis led the Trojans with 26 points while senior teammate Day'Neshia Banks finished with 18. The duo has been the backbone of back-to-back titles by Ribault and the fourth for head coach Sheila Seymour-Pennick.

Leaning on their signature defense, the Trojans held Lakewood to just seven shots and four points in the first quarter which they led 26-4.

Next up for the Lady Trojans is a defense of their Dicks Sporting Goods national title next month.
