UNF ready to play tournament game

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The UNF basketball team, aka "The Birds Of Trey," literally took flight Monday afternoon on its way to Dayton for a first-round NCAA tournament game on Wednesday at 6:40 p.m.

The Ospreys (23-11) haven't played a game in eight days and it will be 10 days when they face Robert Morris (19-14) on Wednesday night.

Ospreys head coach Matthew Driscoll says the week off has been beneficial for the team with all the media obligations that went with the Ospreys' first trip to the big dance. But he said the team is ready to get back on the floor.

"It's starting to feel like a game", Driscoll said. "We're starting to get out of the frenzy and now we are getting on a bus to catch a plane to play a game. It really feels good to go back on the floor."

Robert Morris is making its third trip to the NCAA tournament in the past seven years. The Colonials were last in the big dance in 2010 and nearly upset Villanova.

The Colonials are a familiar opponent for Driscoll. He grew up in Pittsburgh and was a finalist for the Colonials' head coaching job in 2007.

"They were very good when I was growing up," Driscoll said. "Robert Morris is a very good team. They're in a one bid league like us. There are some similarities in that they shoot the three very well.  It'll be a competitive game."

News4Jax will be in Dayton with the Ospreys as they play their first NCAA tournament game in school history.

And in honor of the team's history-making efforts, Moe's Southwest Grill is offering incentive for UNF to bust some brackets. The locally owned and operated restaurant will treat Jacksonville to discounted burritos the day after each UNF victory in the NCAA Tournament.

If the Ospreys make a historic run to the Final Four, Moe's will give the city of Jacksonville free burritos the day after the Ospreys advance to the NCAA championship game.

If UNF beats Robert Morris Wednesday, all Jacksonville-area Moe's locations will offer burritos for $5 all day Thursday. The burrito prices will drop by $1 for every UNF victory in the tournament.
