Woman honored for Gate River Run T-shirt design
The woman who won the first-ever contest to design the Gate River Run T-shirt will be honored after the completion of Saturday's 15K.
Jevie Asunto's designed was selected by popular vote and used on more than 20,000 shirts given to this year's runners. Her design was chosen from numerous hand-drawn and computer-designed submissions.
Asunto, 23, is a professional painter and graphite pencil artist who specializes in portraiture. She will be honored and given a cash prize on the awards stage of Jacksonville Fairgrounds about 10 a.m. during post-race festivities.
"I have always found myself fascinated with the nuances of the human face -- the human expression seems to culminate in even the simplest of facial expressions bringing freshness to even the tired cliche that 'a picture is worth a thousand words,'" Asunto said. "So, it is indeed ironic that I won a design competition for a sporting event center on landscape subject matter."
The call is out for designs for the 2015 GRR T-shirt design. Amateurs and professionals can submit up to three designs each by mail or delivery to the Gate corporate offices by Aug. 2, 2014. Designs may be created by hand in any number of mediums or by computer, but should be in color and measure 12x12 inches.
