Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down
WJXT Editorial by John Rafferty, Aired February 28, 2008
It's time for some Thumbs Up and some Thumbs Down.
Thumbs Down to the top water wasters in Jacksonville. A recent Channel 4 investigation looked at the thirstiest homes in our city. We found that the average home in our area uses about 84,000 gallons of water each year. But at the top of the JEA's list of home water usage is a residence that used a whopping 3.4 million gallons of water last year. Although there are no legal restrictions on how much water a home can use, we have a word for these homeowners…Conservation.
But Thumbs Up to FCCJ in offering students some new opportunities. The community college will soon offer new 4-year degrees in fields where graduates are in high demand. The bachelor's degrees will be in Nursing, Computer Networking, and Supervision and Management.
And Thumbs Up to St. Johns County Commissioners for trying to ease a traffic nightmare. The commission is considering a moratorium on new development in the fast growing neighborhoods of Northern St. Johns County along County Road 210. If you'd like to learn more, there will be a public hearing on March 11 in the County Auditorium.
