Ayesha K. Faines

Traffic, General Assignment Reporter

POSTED: Wednesday, November 12, 2008

Hailing from New Jersey, Ayesha appreciates the sunshine and hospitality of Jacksonville.

Ayesha is a graduate of Yale University where she received degrees in both Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations and African Studies. She speaks Spanish and Arabic.

Ayesha completed a three-year summer fellowship with CNBC in 2007 as a member of the Emma L. Bowen Foundation. She worked in the CNBC newsroom for two years. In her final year she contributed to the Web site, CNBC.com.

During her senior year at Yale, Ayesha worked as freelance journalist for CNBC, reporting the presidential candidate's economic positions for "Your Money, Your Vote" for CNBC.com. She also contributed to the New Haven Independent, a local Connecticut newspaper.

Although she's always dreamed of being a journalist, Ayesha's first love is dance. A classically trained ballerina, she studied with the New Jersey Ballet and the Dance Theatre of Harlem. As a teen, she performed professional roles with New Jersey Ballet's Junior Company.

Ayesha has held several pageant titles, most recently, Miss Black Connecticut USA 2007, for which she traveled to the Gambia, Africa, to compete for the national title -- an incredible experience.

Ayesha is also an accomplished pianist, though she admits, her parents gave her no choice in this matter. These days she still appreciates the arts. She loves attending the theater, taking the occasional dance class, or spending an evening playing jazz and R&B ballads on her piano.

She thinks reading is like Pilates for the mind and there is always a stack of great books by her night stand. In her spare time you might also find her running, writing, or mentoring young women on issues of sexual health and self-esteem.

And while enquiring minds may want to know what the "K" in her name stands for, a woman should always keep some things a mystery.

Ayesha is new to Jacksonville, so if you see her around, say "Hello."
