News4Jax.com honored with national award

Radio Television Digital News Association names News4Jax Best Website

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Radio Television Digital News Association named News4Jax.com as winner of the 2014 Edward R. Murrow Award as Best Website for a large market television station in America.

"For those of you not familiar with the Murrow, it is among the most prestigious awards there is, only given to the best of the best in journalism," said WJXT Vice President and General Manager Bob Ellis. "At the national level, you're competing with every TV market and all the networks as well."

WJXT's website joins a field of 98 electronic media companies honored this year by the RTDNA at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square on Oct. 6, with News4Jax among some of the most respected names in broadcasting: ABC, CBS, NBC, NPR, ESPN, WCVB in Boston, WJLA in Washington, D.C. WFAA in Dallas and KING in Seattle.

"By putting on these awards, we are honoring the most excellence in journalism that's going on around the world all year," said Amy Tardif, chairwoman of RTDNA. "These are the best and we want people to look to them and say oh, that's what I should be doing."

Award recipients demonstrate the standards of excellence that Edward R. Murrow set for the journalism industry.

"Edward R. Murrow was kind of the gold standard," said Bob Schieffer, presenter and award recipient. "I mean, he's what we all measure ourselves against."

News4Jax.com is the most visited local website in the Jacksonville market, drawing more local users and pageviews than the daily newspaper or any other local broadcaster.

News4Jax wasn't the only Jacksonville news organization to win a Murrow this year. "State of the Re:Union," a production based out of WJCT-FM, won RTNDA's national award for Best Radio Documentary.
