FHP investigated case for months, arrested 21-year-old driver in traffic stop

Dalton Edwards was arrested on DUI manslaughter and other charges in a Jan. 9 crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A driver accused of causing a crash that killed two St. Johns County women in January has been charged with two counts of DUI manslaughter, DUI with property damage and possession of an alcoholic beverage by a minor, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Dalton Edwards, 21, was arrested during a traffic stop and booked into the Flagler County jail. He was ordered held on $367,518 bond.

Katherine Stecker, 19, of St. Augustine, and Victoria Sutton, 20, of Hastings, died Jan. 9 after a pickup truck ran a stop sign at the intersection of Isaacson Avenue at Yelvington Road.  Another person in the SUV and Edwards, the driver of the pickup, were injured in the crash.

Edwards, who lives in Bunnell, was stopped by troopers Thursday evening in Palm Coast.

Troopers said the arrest came after months of research and investigative techniques that allowed them to obtain an arrest warrant.
