JSO: Woman riding motorized wheelchair dies in crash

Police: Atlantic Boulevard closed for hours after woman was struck by car

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 56-year-old woman was killed Wednesday evening when her motorized wheelchair was struck by a car while trying to cross on Atlantic Boulevard, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said. 

Police said Lisa Anne Coulter was struck at 10:50 p.m. near the intersection of Bowlan Street, one block east of Century 21 Drive.  All lanes of Atlantic Boulevard between Bowlan and Acme streets were blocked for several hours.

Police said Coulter was hit by a white Chrysler 200 traveling west.  She was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries, where she later died. 

The man driving the car and his passenger in the car were not injured, police said. They were both cooperating with investigators, according to the Sheriff's Office. 

Traffic homicide detectives said witnesses reported the car had a green light at the time of the accident. Police continue to investigate.
