JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Florida Department of Transportation said that construction delays that kept the westbound lanes of Atlantic Boulevard closed at the Interstate 95 overpass through the Monday morning commute will continue.

Contractors now anticipate reopening Atlantic Boulevard between Kings Avenue/Philips Highway intersection and St. Nicholas at 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Eastbound traffic on Atlantic also closed intermittently Monday due to construction activity and runoff during heavy rainfall.

"We apologize for the delay, but are actively working to complete the necessary work in a safe and timely manner," wrote Nick Lulli, public information officer for the Overland Bridge project.

FDOT said laying asphalt as part of the Overland Bridge project has been delayed by the weather.

Westbound traffic is detoured from Atlantic onto I-95 and exiting on Prudential Drive.  There was not a stated detour for eastbound traffic, but motorists would have to take Philips Highway.
