Dump truck flips, halts I-95 traffic

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A dump truck flipped upside down, causing a major traffic backup in all three lanes of Interstate 95 southbound near County Road 210 on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened just after 3 p.m., stalling traffic for hours. The truck was carrying asphalt, which was not hot, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The southbound lanes were temporarily blocked by emergency vehicles. The driver of the truck was flown to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 43-year-old John Henry was driving the truck southbound when the left front tire blew, causing him to steer toward the median. The front axle of the truck struck the guardrail, forcing the truck to vault over the guardrail.

The truck overturned in the median, spilling asphalt in one northbound lane.

The southbound lanes were temporarily blocked by emergency vehicles.

Henry was flown to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Traffic remained slow-moving at 5:30 p.m.
