FHP: 1 dies in crash in Clay County

Troopers say 2 thrown from SUV in rollover crash

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – Two people were thrown from an SUV that flipped after the driver lost control early Monday morning in Clay County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver, 25-year-old Vance Edwards, was one of those thrown from the Ford Explorer on Indigo Avenue. He died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the FHP report.

Two of Edwards' passengers, 20-year-old Katie Parker and 24-year-old Nicholas Roberts, were taken to Orange Park Medical Center with serious injuries, troopers said.

A third passenger, a 19-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries and remained at the scene.
