FHP: Driver injured when van flips on I-295

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 24-year-old driver was seriously injured Monday morning when he flipped his van on I-295 just after the Town Center Parkway on-ramp, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

James Ropon was headed southbound on I-295 in the center lane and failed to slow down behind traffic in front of him, the FHP report said.

Ropon's van veered onto the shoulder of the highway, hit a traffic sign pole on its left side, spun, hit a light pole with its left side and overturned, landing on its left side.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Ropon was taken to UF Health with serious injuries. He has been charged with careless driving and violating license restrictions.
