JSO: Car crashes into police cruiser, 2 other cars

1 adult, 3 children hurt Wednesday on San Jose Boulevard near I-295

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One adult and three children were injured Wednesday afternoon when a car seen speeding hours earlier crashed into a police cruiser and two other cars in Mandarin, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The crash occurred about 10:30 a.m. on San Jose Boulevard just south of Interstate 295.

The adult and one of the children were in serious condition, firefighters said. One of the children was taken to UF Health Jacksonville and the adult was taken to Orange Park Medical Center.

Police said the officer was not injured. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office did not release information at the scene, but released a recap Thursday morning that said police did not pursue the speeding vehicle when the driver did not pull over on San Jose Boulevard about 15 minutes before the crash.

Police have not released names of those involved or what charges may be filed.

"Suddenly right behind me the blue car swerved, going toward a median, and I'm thinking I'm going to be impacted, and I hear a horrific crash behind me," witness Peter Trolle said. "I thought I was going to be part of it. You hear a horrible sound when you see a crash like that."

Northbound traffic on San Jose was diverted to Claire Lane through the Walmart parking lot and back onto San Jose for several hours. One southbound lane of San Jose Boulevard at I-295 was closed until the accident was cleared.
