A tractor-trailer was hauling fill dirt while traveling eastbound on State Road 16 when, for an unknown reason, the pickup crossed over the centerline and entered the eastbound travel lane, troopers said. They said the tractor-trailer tried to avoid the truck but couldn't.

The front of the tractor-trailer struck the front of the pickup, and the tractor-trailer overturned in the grass shoulder.

Johansen was flown to Shands Hospital in Gainesville. The driver of the tractor-trailer, 60-year-old Charles Priester, of Jacksonville, was taken to Shands in Gainesville by ambulance.

State Road 16 was shut down in both directions for about 3.5 hours for the investigation.

Troopers said charges are pending.
