Man, 75, dies after single-vehicle crash last month

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A 75-year-old Ponte Vedra Beach man has died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash last month on South Ponte Vedra Boulevard.

Romildo "Ray" Gottuso, 75, died at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center.

Traffic homicide investigators from the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 3100 block of South Ponte Vedra Boulevard at 6:20 a.m. March 29.

Gottuso, who was driving a 2005 Mazda pickup truck, was traveling southbound when he drove off the road and struck a
mailbox, deputies said. They said he continued southbound and over-corrected two times before flipping the vehicle on its side.

Gottuso was partially ejected from the vehicle and was flown to Shands.

Deputies said they're continuing the investigation to determine the factors that caused the crash.
