Man, 78, critical in Racetrack Road crash

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A 78-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries in a two-vehicle crash that closed Racetrack Road on Tuesday morning, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were called to the crash at Bartram Oaks Walk at 10:15 a.m.

A 1998 Nissan Frontier driven by Herbert Stafford, of Julington Creek, was heading south on Bartram Oaks Walk across Racetrack Road when it struck a 2013 Hyundai Elantra driven by 28-year-old Victoria Hartwell, of Middleburg, that was traveling westbound on Racetrack road.

Both drivers were taken to Julington Creek Memorial Hospital. Stafford was then flown to UF Health Jacksonville.

The road was completely blocked at the intersection until just before 3 p.m.

Deputies said the investigation is ongoing.
