Lights working again at Baymeadows intersection

Contractors repaired downed lights at Baymeadows and Southside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Power was restored and traffic lights were working normally Friday afternoon at the intersection of Baymeadows Road and Southside Boulevard, after a crash that caused a traffic nightmare for morning commuters.

Contractors repaired the lights after the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the driver of an SUV lost control and hit an electrical box, which disabled all of the traffic signals at the intersection.

JEA worked to restore the traffic control devices. A JEA spokesperson said crews had to hand over repairs to the city of Jacksonville before returning to finish the job.

A city spokesperson said fiber optic connections and video detectors required additional time to repair.

The driver of the SUV was taken to a local hospital but police did not say what condition he was in or release his name.

Drivers were urged to avoid the intersection until the traffic signals were working again.

Officers were on scene throughout the day directing traffic until the signals were restored.
