Things slow down a little bit in Vegas during the summer -- it gets very hot there. But that doesn't mean there's absolutely nothing to do.
In fact, some of the biggest names in entertainment will head to Sin City this summer and I've picked a lucky 7 of them to spotlight in case you hadn't decided what to do with your two weeks off this year.
1. The
Mandalay Bay Beach Concert Series is one of the most unique summer events in Vegas. The hotel lines up some big names and puts them on a stage out by the beach and pool areas for warm summer night concerts. It can be warm, but it's a pretty cool idea. This year's lineup kicks off with the Beach Boys on June 24, followed up by folks like the Go-Gos, the B-52s and the always enjoyable Cyndi Lauper. For tickets and full schedule, visit
MandalayBay.com or call (877) 632-7400.
2. Mandalay Bay is also the location for the guy who not only writes the songs but is Jennifer Hudson's biggest fan, so that makes him cool in my book. Yes, we're talking about
Barry Manilow, who will be playing the Events Center on June 5.
3. While Celine Dion is taking her regularly scheduled breaks, Caesars Palace is booking some big names into the Colosseum, including continuing shows by
Elton John throughout the summer,
Jerry Seinfeld on June 11 and 12 and
Faith Hill in August. Visit
Caesars.com or call (877) 427-7243 for tickets.
4. Feeling "Hella Good"? Forgotten Talk Talk's version of "It's My Life"? Then you're going to want to check out
No Doubt at the intimate Rain nightclub at the Palms. The group will play there June 27, and you can visit
Palms.com or call (866) 942-7770 for tickets.
5. It's nice when people kiss, make up and go on tour selling tickets for hundreds of dollars apiece, isn't it? That's right,
Simon and Garfunkel will stop in Vegas on July 3, so you can build a bridge over your troubled waters and see them at roughly the same time. They'll be at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Click through to
MGMGrand.com or call (877) 880-0880 for tickets.
6. He may not be the hippest, hottest, coolest comedian anymore, but if you've never heard or seen the legendary
Bob Newhart do his routines, you are missing out on the true meaning of comic timing. The button-down mind will be at the Stardust July 7-10. Call (866) 854-6070 for tickets.
7. My final pick for a must-see concert has to go to the inimitable
Chaka Khan, who'll stop by the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay on July 17. "Ain't Nobody," "Tell Me Something Good," "Love Me Still," "I Feel For You" -- come on! She's the best. Call (877) 632-7400 or visit
HOB.com for tickets.
