Duval County Recovers From Fay

Based on information gathered by Channel 4's news staff, here is the latest information from Duval County:

Schools

All schools and district offices reopen Monday. There will be some modification to the lunch menu due to power outages over the weekend.

Solid Waste, Debris Collection

  • Residential garbage collection resumed Saturday morning, picking up their Thursday routes. Crews will pickup Friday's routes on Monday. Regular trash collection, including recycling and bagged yard waste (non-storm-related grass clippings, etc.), will resume normally scheduled operations on Monday.
  • Storm debris collection will begin on Tuesday. Residents are encouraged to begin setting debris out by the curb over the weekend and Monday in preparation for debris pickup.
  • Damage Assessment

  • City officials ask residents of Duval County to assist with damage assessment from Tropical Storm Fay by reporting property damage. Residents are asked to call 904-630-CITY (2489) to report flood, wind or debris-related damage to their homes, businesses and vehicles.
  • A full assessment of storm damage is important to recovery efforts, as federal and state recovery agencies require accurate and complete information before any funding or assistance could be provided.
  • Red Cross Assistance

  • Volunteers will be available to provide family services at 751 Riverside Ave. from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday for those with disaster-caused needs who lack sufficient resources to recover.
  • For those whose homes have received significant damage from Tropical Storm Fay, please call (904) 358-8091 to report damage and to make an appointment. Be prepared to give your name, address and emergency needs when you call.
  • Bridges and Roads

  • All roads and bridges have reopened.
  • Power Outages

  • At 9 a.m. Monday, just over 5,000 homes and businesses were still without electricity. JEA updates the number and locations of outages on its Web site.
  • Residents still without power were asked to call 904-665-6000.
  • Shelters

    Emergency shelters in Duval County closed at 9 a.m. Saturday The American Red Cross has opened a host shelter at Evangel Temple, located at 5955 Ramona Blvd., at the intersection of Lane Avenue and Ramona.
