Teen Killed In Single-Car Wreck On 9A

POSTED: Sunday, October 12, 2008

An 18-year-old from Ponte Vedra died and a 21-year-old was seriously injured Saturday night in a single-vehicle wreck on state Road 9A.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Timothy Jan Andrews was driving a 2002 Lexus at a high rate of speed about 11:30 p.m. About 1 mile north of Philips Highway, troopers said he failed to merge when a lane ended, drove onto the median, overcorrected and the car began to spin, left the road again, hit some trees and came to rest in a pond.

Andrews was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Christopher Alan Reichle was transported to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center, where troopers said he was in serious condition.

According to the FHP report, neither was wearing a seat belt. Toxicology tests were being done to see if alcohol was a factor in the wreck.
