Chilly weekend ahead

Friday night's weather will be cold but not freezing as the polar air we've been tracking for the last week makes its appearance across the region. Overnight lows will bottom out in the mid to upper 30s for many locations under mostly cloudy to overcast skies.

Saturday will be a continuation of Friday's weather except slightly cooler still and far more windy. Highs will struggle to reach the low 50s by afternoon as the clouds will likely remain thick most of the day but will feel like the low 40s with winds gusting to 20+ mph. The lack of sunshine Saturday will keep the conditions across the area feeling more like January than March.

Saturday night may see the issuance of a Wind Chill Advisory/Freeze Watch as winds remain fairly gusty and temperatures begin their decline into the low 30s. The hard freeze being predicted by the models of days past have since moderated quite a bit thanks in part to the cloudy skies and the wind. The wind keeps the atmosphere well mixed and keeps the temperatures from dropping to hard freeze levels (mid to low 20s). Tender plants and pets will need to be protected. Pipes will not be in danger.

Sunday continues the trend of a chilly weekend. Though there will be a few more peaks of sun on Sunday, temperatures will still struggle to reach the mid 50s. The winds should subside just a bit so there won't be as much of a bite as you carry out your plans. Sunday night, a freeze warning is likely for most of the area as the coldest temperatures of  this polar push hangs on. A widespread freeze is likely with temperatures into the upper 20s for all areas except the immediate beaches. Protection of plants and pets will certainly need protection/shelter.

Conditons finally remain chilly for Monday with highs just touching 60 degrees. However, there will be a slight repreave from the cold on Tuesday as highs reach 70 but another cold front brings a reinforcing shot of cooler air into the region on Wednesday. Have a great weekend!
