JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Rain moving west to east across north Florida and south Georgia on Tuesday prompted severe thunderstorm warnings in inland counties in the morning and will bring rain over much of the day in greater Jacksonville.

Channel 4 chief meteorologist John Gaughan says that while rainfall amounts will remain under 1 inch for most people, there are likely to be some embedded severe storms that could bring higher amounts to isolated areas.

Gusty winds up to 45 mph could accompany the thunderstorms.

Gaughan said the fronts should pass offshore by late afternoon, bringing drier, cooler weather for the rest of the week.
