JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Kids heading back to school on Monday will be rudely welcomed back by a day of rain and wind, then dropping temperatures, and by afternoon, Arctic cold -- perhaps the coldest weather in more than a decade.

The morning bus stop will be mild, maybe a little wild, and there will be brief, heavy showers.  The showers will be associated with gusty winds to 40 mph, and quickly followed by plunging temperatures.

The combination of plunging temperatures, winds to 40 mph, wind chill temperatures in the 20s followed will be followed by a hard freeze Tuesday morning. These condition are more than enough to declare this Monday and Tuesday, Weather Authority Alert Days.

Channel 4 and News4Jax will have more updates as we get closer to Monday morning, so stay tuned.
