JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It's been a long summer, as they usually are. As we get ready to close out August, the meteorological autumn is about to begin, and the models are indicating our first little cool down.
While there are a couple of you that have some choice words for me about liking the cooler weather, I think most in our area would agree that enough is enough.

Our first significant cold front of the autumn season can normally be expected by mid September. By significant, I mean a noticeable change in the temperatures; usually highs in the low to mid 80s and overnight lows in the low to mid 60s.
If -- and I emphasize if -- the models are right, our first taste of football weather will be here by Tuesday as a slightly cooler, more stable airmass moves in behind a front.
It'll be most noticeable in the early morning hours of Tuesday with overnight lows being projected for the mid 60s -- especially in rural areas.
We're almost to the time of year when the only heat to be found will be under the collar as our favorite football teams battle it out for a chance at the title.
So wrapping this up, if I were to rate this next weeks forecast on a scale of 1 to 95, the hottest temperature observed this year in Jacksonville, I'd rate it a 72; with a boost given from the projected cooler temps.
