Chilly temperatures return to Jacksonville

Cold rain possible by this evening

Temperatures across the United States may be the coldest for this entire winter. Arctic cold air is widespread spanning from the Pacific to the Atlantic Oceans.  The expected average temperature for the lower 48 states is expected to drop to around 9°.  The big exception will be South Florida & The Keys.

Locally, for Jacksonville, the thrill of the chill is back!  Not as cold as last week, yet morning wind chill temperatures will be in the upper 30's in Georgia to around 43° downtown. Sunshine may start your day, but clouds rapidly return.  These clouds will reflect any warmth from the sun today, leaving our temperatures generally in the 50's along with leaving skies looking winter gray.

After around 3pm, recent forecast models suggest that rain, a cold rain will spread across NEFL / SEGA and last throughout the night.  Amounts will be light, but the cold misty rains will last for hours.

Bottom line:  Grab a jacket and an umbrella as you head on out today!
