Cooler weather arrives Tuesday

Freeze watch in effect for interior sections of all Northeast Florida counties

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – While Old Man Winter's icy grip wallops the great lakes states with some of the coldest air in two years, we in Jacksonville basked in early spring-like weather -- until Tuesday.

High temperatures Monday once again approached or exceeded 70 degrees across the River City.  Even though it wasn't as toasty as last week with temperatures in the low 80s, we're still running way, way above normal. According to the NWS, we're 8.1 degrees below normal for the month thus far. Now that's amazing.

A cold front passing Tuesday will knock our highs down into the upper 50s and lower 60s for both Tuesday and Wednesday. A light freeze is anticipated Tuesday night.  The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for Tuesday night/Wednesday morning in Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and most north central Florida counties, saying sub-freezing temperatures are possible for up to two hours

We'll see a brief warm up to above normal temperatures Thursday and Friday before our next cold snap next weekend.

We're going to continue to see a progressive weather pattern over the next few weeks across much of the country as we get into a cyclical pattern of warming up and then cooling down behind a cold front. Then we warm up again before another cold front moves in. The sub-tropical jetstream, responsible for most of our weather, is very quiet currently and therefore we're looking at dry conditions across the region for the next seven days. For that reason, the National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for most of our area for Tuesday afternoon.

Regardless of how cold you think it is here, just remember that the high temperature on Monday in Minneapolis was four degrees below zero. That's -4 for a high! Monday's low in International Falls, Minn., is expected to get down to a chilly 32 degrees below zero. See, our weather isn't so bad after all is it?
