Mini nor'easter brings rains, higher tides for holiday

Coastal showers probable through Thanksgiving

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Winds have picked up over the past few hours and with that, showers have been breezing onshore, some have been briefly heavy.  Unfortunately this will be the new "norm" as we should expect these (winds and showers) mini-nor'easter conditions to last the next few days.

Along the coastal areas, including along the St. Johns river, tides have been running above normal and some high tide flooding is expected the next few days.  Part of the reason for these abnormally high tides is the full moon!

Today (Wednesday) will be a full moon and it should be quiet spectacular as it rises over the eastern horizon at 5:38pm.  Look west too!  Sunsets at 5:26pm.

High tides will be on the 8's (8am/pm) at the beach and 10's (10am/10pm) downtown Jacksonville. High tides are running about 1 foot above the already high astronomical tides.

Call it a "mini-mini' nor'easter. Mainly gusty winds to 30 mph along the coast that are keeping astronomically high tides about 1 foot above normal. A coastal flood advisory is in effect.

Meanwhile, rain has returned to the area and the expected coastal showers will come in waves, leaving many hours without rainfall.  Most showers will also be brief, lasting less than 15 minutes.

Milder temperatures too!
