JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Are you daydreaming of snowfall again? Perhaps the moon on the breast of the new fallen snow giving the luster of midday to the objects below? Well, I may have a small treat for those who love winter's mischief; but you might have to take a small drive.

A series of cold fronts are scheduled to move through the southeast, including Jacksonville, this week that will bring very cold air to the deep south. The cold air may be sufficient enough to squeeze out a mix of sleet and snow as far south as north-central Georgia by Wednesday as a disturbance develops behind the fronts.
For those who can't make the drive, I'm afraid you'll have to continue living vicariously through the neighbors to our north. No snow is expected for Jacksonville although we could have a trio of freezes by weeks end!
I've been keeping tabs on the National Weather Service out of Atlanta and Birmingham and at this time, there does not seem to be any indication of significant accumulations in that area. At this time, no winter storm watches are anticipated; although that may change if computer models continue to indicate a band of heavy snow moving through Atlanta by Wednesday midday.
As seen in the above image, the GFS model continues to indicate a round of moderate snowfall moving through the Atlanta area. As you can see, the freeze line (dark blue leading line) is located in far southeast Georgia while an area of disturbed weather moves overhead while in the freezing layer. What happens when you mix deep cold air with cold? Voila! Snow.
The moisture will stay well north of our area and therefore not a single flake is expected. Not even one. As they say in New York: "fuhgeddaboutit."
Nonetheless, a series of freezes will impact our area as early as Thursday morning with many of us bottoming out in the 20s! It doesn't end there though, we may see temperatures below freezing all the way through Monday morning if current models are to be believed! As seen at right, the expected lows [circled] in Jacksonville hover around the freezing mark for a number of days!
While the freezes won't be to the extent of last week's deep freeze, it still will be enough to kill sensitive plants.
