JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The first real cold bite of the season will settle in across the River City on Thursday night as temperatures drop into the mid- and upper-30s for north Florida. Only the beaches will escape the winter-like temperatures.

On Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued a frost advisory for most areas west of interstate 95, from 3 to 9 a.m. Friday. Areas affected in Florida include: Hamilton, Suwannee, Columbia, Baker, Union, Bradford, Gilchrist and Alachua counties. In Georgia: Marion, Coffee, Jeff Davis, Bacon, Appling, Wayne, Atkinson, Ware, Pierce, Brantley, Echols, Clinch and Charlton counties.
Temperatures across inland Florida zones and inland southeast Georgia zones are expected to bottom out in the mid 30s overnight as skies remain clear and the winds stay calm. If you are in an advisory area, it is prudent at this time to cover tender vegetation with a blanket or some sort of cloth material. Plastic is not a viable option.
Thursday night and Friday morning will be the coldest period this week. The weekend ahead and into early next week looks nice as temperatures rebound into the mid and upper 70s for daytime highs and overnight lows in the mid 50s. Our next cold front is not due to arrive until maybe Tuesday but it is very weak. Our next strong cold front may be possible by Thanksgiving Day.
