Hard freeze on the way

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Over the past few days, the Weather Authority has been monitoring cold air building over Canada. Now that cold air is on the move and will arrive in our area Saturday evening.

This front will allow temperatures to plummet down into the mid 20s for many locations across southeast Georgia and northern Florida both Saturday and Sunday nights.

In preparation of this freeze, all sensitive plants will need to be moved inside and or covered with cloth or blanket. Any exposed pipes will need to be wrapped -- especially along the Interstate 75 corridor and in southeast Georgia. All pets will need a warm place to sleep as well. At this time, we expect to stay below freezing for up to 12 hours.

A freeze watch and warning are both likely as we head into the evening hours on Friday or Saturday morning.
