JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Heavy rain accompanied by embedded thunderstorms are promising to cancel or postpone any outdoor activities you have planned over the next 24 hours.
Here's what you can anticipate for the rest of the evening hours:
Light showers are moving through a Gainesville to Lake City line along I-75 as of 3 p.m. These light showers are weakening but may still provide for wet streets in Baker, Union, Bradford and Alachua counties.

The sunshine that we saw earlier this afternoon in Jacksonville is now a thing of the past. Darker clouds have rolled in and will give way to heavy rain locally starting around 10 p.m. and lasting through much of the night.
Most areas are expecting between a half and one inch of rain. Some areas, especially those areas that get thunderstorms, may see up to 2 inches.
While there is a slight chance of severe weather, most of that threat will be confined to the I-75 corridor, at least for tonight. Gusty winds will be the primary threat.
Most of the rain should be moving out by early Saturday morning with a return to perhaps some brief moments of sunshine. Don't be fooled! This will only help to destabilize our atmosphere making severe weather more of a likely possibility for Jacksonville Saturday afternoon. A tornado watch may be required.
