Camden County officials want homeowners to report hurricane damage

County hopes to be included in presidentially declared disaster to receive funds

WOODBINE, Ga. – Although Camden County has not been declared for federal assistance for homeowners, known as “Individual Assistance,” the county is still conducting damage assessments and submitting that information to FEMA in hopes of being included in the declaration.

If you own your home and have damage caused by Hurricane Matthew, the County Commissioners Office said it wants to hear from you. Homeowners can go online to www.surveymonkey.com/r/hurricanmatthew and submit your information, or call 912-729-3911.

Here are some facts provided by the FEMA Individual Assistance website:

  • Home/primary residence: FEMA provides housing assistance to individuals and families who have lost their homes as a result of a presidentially declared disaster. By law, FEMA assistance cannot duplicate the assistance you receive from your insurance company. If your home was impacted by a major disaster FEMA recommends that you contact your local emergency management office.
  • Business: FEMA does not offer assistance for small businesses impacted by a presidentially declared disaster. However, FEMA does partner with the Small Business Administration, which offers low-interest loans for business damages.
  • Secondary home: FEMA does not offer assistance for your secondary home. Federal guidelines only allow housing assistance when your primary residence is impacted by a presidentially declared disaster.
  • Other needs assistance: FEMA does offer disaster assistance for some other disaster-related expenses including, medical and dental, childcare, funeral and burial, essential household items, moving and storage, vehicle, and some clean-up items.
