Clay County now eligible for FEMA public assistance

County added to those already listed as eligible for federal aid

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Federal assistance has been extended to two more Florida counties hit by Hurricane Matthew to cover eligible disaster-related expenses and the repair or rebuilding of critical infrastructure.

The state, local and tribal governments and certain private nonprofits in Clay and Martin counties can now request funding through FEMA’s Public Assistance grant program to help pay for debris removal, emergency protective measures, and the repair or rebuilding of roads, bridges, water-control facilities, buildings, equipment, utilities, parks and recreational facilities.

These efforts primarily address the reimbursement of expenses related to government preparedness and response efforts, as well as the replacement or repair of damaged public infrastructure.

Clay County has extended its Local State of Emergency through Nov. 2, which enables the county to efficiently address post-disaster public health and safety concerns.

Meanwhile, Public Assistance has been expanded beyond debris removal and emergency protective measures in five other Florida counties that sustained damage from Matthew including Indian River, Nassau, Putnam, St. Johns and Volusia.
