Monday's storms fire up late

The sea breeze kept the Beaches MUCH cooler this afternoon.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – UPDATE:  The Weather Authority is tracking a storm moving North at 25mph in Northeastern Clay, Northwestern St Johns, and into Southeastern Duval counties through 6:30pm. These storms are strong and are capable of producing nickel sized hail, heavy rain, and strong wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph.  Locations of concern include Jacksonville, Orange Park, Green Cove Springs, Fruit Cove, Mandarin, Bayard, Baymeadows, Nocatee, Durbin, Switzerland, Fleming Island, NAS Jax, and Picolata.

Storms are firing up along I-75, they are most prevalent in the Gainesville area. The storms are moving to the Northeast at 15mph. These storms are considered strong, but not severe. they are capable of producing Nickel sized hail and gusty winds in to 40-55mph range.

Monday started out nice and cool in the upper 60s and low 70s. Sunny skies led to a nice warm-up, into the low 90s by the early afternoon hours.

winds pushed in to the I-95 corridor between 10 and 15mph, keeping the Beaches significantly cooler, in the low 80s for an afternoon high.

The afternoon was much quieter than the last few weeks, with storms developing to the South of our area. By 5:00pm, the only storms effecting us were down in Flagler county.

Despite the quiet afternoon, chances for rain still exist in the forecast, closer to 7:00pm. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop along the seabreeze front late, between I-95 and Hwy 301.
