Hurricane Center forecasts TS Arthur's storm surge

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) released an experimental potential storm surge flooding map for Tropical Storm Arthur.

The map shows where Tropical Storm Arthur's storm surge could impact the east coast. The Potential Storm Surge Flooding Map is an experimental NWS product that is designed to depict the risk associated with the storm surge hazard from a tropical cyclone.

NHC explains on its website that the map was developed over the course of several years by scientists, emergency mangers, broadcast meteorologists and others.

The map shows geographical areas where storm surge could occur and how high the water could reach in those areas. Areas of possible storm surge flooding are represented by different colors on the map.

The map is experimental and is only being used as a general guideline for understanding where storm surge flooding could occur given the current forecast of Tropical Storm Arthur.
