Rainy days and Mondays: Gloomy start to work week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It was a wet start for many this Monday, and where it was not raining the roads were still wet and or foggy.

The Weather Authority has been tracking showers and thunderstorms all day long as they move from south to north across our region. Rainfall totals should remain under a quarter of an inch for many of us Monday but a few pockets higher than that aren't out of the question.

Alachua, Putnam, Marion, Flagler and St Johns counties saw the heaviest rainfall, with small areas seeing over an inch of rain in a short time period.

Rain chances today peaked this aafternoon at around 70% starting in Florida and migrating northward into southeast Georgia.

Some of the thunderstorms, especially in southeast Georgia have been rather strong  but wide spread severe weather is not anticipated for today.

Fog has also been a problem child today morning with visibility as low as 2 to 4 miles here in Duval county to as little as half a mile in Waycross, Ga The Dense Fog Advisory that was in effect overnight has since expired but visibilities are still greatly reduced. Persistent fog remained over waterways for much of the day. Evening fog is anticipated, prepare for a foggy morning commute on Tuesday as well.

That said, today won't be the only wet day. Healthy rain chances remain in the forecast through Thursday before we finally start to see some sunshine once again over our area.

The catalyst to the wet weather is sort of the same set up that brought us the snow last Thursday. High pressure moving in out of Canada will help our winds veer to the northeast pushing moisture over the Atlantic into our region into mid week.
