JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Meteorologists at the National Weather Service told Channel 4 there's a small chance Jacksonville could see some freezing rain this week.

Channel 4 spoke with city leaders to find out how the city is preparing for the expected wet, possibly freezing weather.

"This is when we're expecting a bigger potential for some black ice. Bridges, overpasses, roadways could have some of those issues Wednesday night into Thursday morning," said NWS Meteorologist Jason Hess.

The City of Jacksonville told Channel 4, "The city will continue to monitor conditions as the cold weather approaches. We suggest residents use resources to prepare, especially if they have special needs."

In addition to protecting pets and plants, the city highlighted these home-heating safety tips:

The Florida Highway Patrol issued some tips for drivers if the roads become icy.

"Slow down, don't try to pass slower vehicles, leave plenty of space between you and the other vehicle," FHP said. "Gently use your brakes and accelerate slowly, and of course, wear your seat belt."
