Mild Monday before winter returns

A soggy start turns chilly.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On Monday the chances for a passing shower were small, mainly near the Southern part of the area, during the late morning and early afternoon.

Temperatures will top out in the upper 60s on Monday afternoon under partly cloudy to increasingly  cloudy skies. Winds for Monday afternoon were light, out of the west, from 5-10mph. 

Chances for passing showers increase to 30% overnight Monday into Tuesday, with the concentration of showers mainly across Southeast Georgia.

The chances for rain build on Tuesday, with 60% coverage of showers and mostly cloudy skies. A few rounds of moderate rain push through, bringing a few gusts of wind and only isolated chances for a thunderstorm.  Temperatures remain quite chilly on Tuesday, merely topping out in the 40s and low 50s. 

Tuesday night, there is a slight chance for a brief wintry mix of precipitation, mainly near inland South Georgia- Chief meteorologist John Gaughan is monitoring that closely, "Another massive arctic outbreak for United States may result in a rare major southeastern snowfall from late Tuesday into Thursday morning.  Leaving an area of snow stretching from Louisiana through Central Georgia into the eastern Carolina's." 

The most likely scenario is a mixture of sleet or freezing rain in Waycross and Valdosta for a few hours late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

The wet weather sticks around through Wednesday.
