Thursday thunderstorm moving west

The National Weather Service has just issued a weather statement for Duval County due to a strong thunderstorm.

Just before 2 p.m., the National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated the strong thunderstorm centered 1 mile south of Arlington moving west at 5 mph. Small hail and gusty winds of 45 to 55 mph can be expected along with possible minor wind damage and frequent lightning.

Radar estimates indicate the storm could drop 5 inches of rain per hour, which could cause some temporary flooding.

Channel 4 meteorologist Richard Nunn reported marble-size hail was falling in the Glynlea area. The station on the Southbank was getting heavy wind-driven rain.

A similar alert was issued for Putnam and St. Johns Counties lasting until 3 p.m. due to a thunderstorm near Spuds also moving west at 5 mph.

Both storms are erupting along the sea breeze front.
