Warm afternoon with isolated showers
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Expect warm temperatures and isolated showers under partly cloudy skies this weekend.

Saturday morning started with mild low 70's and a few clouds. Winds were light out of the West, around 5mph.  As the sun got higher on the horizon, temperatures climbed quickly into the mid to upper 80's by the noon hour.  Winds from the SW peaked at 10mph before shifting to become NE at 10mph as a weak frontal system sagged through our area.

Chances for rain went up to 30% by 2:00pm.  The sea breeze, daytime heating, and the weak frontal system all acted as catalyst points and/or contributing factors to afternoon chances for showers.  From West to East, along I-10 was a a focal point for showers due to the positioning of the weak frontal system. A thunderstorm popped up over Jacksonville at 4:45pm producing lightning and strong gusts of wind, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a significant weather advisory.  Craig Field, Fort Caroline, Tallyrand, Downtown, and Arlington all heard the rumble of thunder and heavy rain. Gusts of wind reached 45 to 50mph within the storms. That storm moved to the South slowly around 5mph.   A few storms  lingered after sunset, but fade by midnight.

We woke up to low 70's Sunday morning and partly cloudy skies. Temperatures warmed quickly into the mid 80's and top out at 90° by the afternoon hours. A few coastal showers wandered onshore during the morning, but isolated storms developed along and to the West of I-95 around 2:00pm, most predominantly across Southeast Georgia.  Those storms pushed inland with the breezes out of the East around 10mph. A thunderstorm over the Waycross area dumped quite a bit of rain over a few hours and brought excessive lightning during the afternoon.   Sunday carried only a 20% chance for showers, but the heat index value, or the feels-like temperature was well into the low 90's.
