'Players' weekend starts hot, turns wet

Warmer temperatures and an increasing chance for showers

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As you head out to The Players, plan for warmer weather Saturday morning, but an increasing chance by rain on late afternoon and, possibly, Sunday.

Thursday's weather was the beginning of a warming trend.  Friday morning started out comfortable, but under partly cloudy skies, temperatures soared into the upper 80s.  Winds didn't offer much relief, only light and variable, developing more of a southeasterly direction during the afternoon hours.

If you're going to watch (or play) golf on Saturday, dress for warm temperatures for most of the day, as highs will climb into the mid 80s.  After 3 p.m., chances for showers develop. It would be worth carrying a rain jacket in the afternoon as the forecast calls for a 50% coverage of showers and even thunderstorms between 2 and 8 p.m.

Storms Saturday evening will die down quickly after sunset.

Sunday at The Players will be partly cloudy, with a few showers firing up around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Models show up to 2 inches of rain possible in St Johns County by Sunday night -- which would quickly turn into standing water and create minor flooding issues purely due to the amount of rain last week.

If the weekend's anticipated rain were to delay play, Monday would be a great make-up day: mostly sunny and breezy, with highs reaching 83 degrees.
