Wednesday storms are beginning of big weather changes Thursday

Early Spring-like temperatures expected Thursday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Just when you thought you were done with the long sleeves or sweaters: wrong. Near record lows are possible Friday morning behind a cold front that is bringing thunderstorms to our area Wednesday.

As of this entry, storms continue to fire along and south of a St. Augustine, Green Cove Springs, Gainesville line. Areas of central and southern Clay and St. Johns counties have seen several rounds of storms and heavy showers move through. The same goes for Putnam and Alachua counties as well.

While the severe potential is marginal at best, we did see one warning issued for Flagler county earlier Wednesday morning. The main threat with any storm that develops will be some small hail up to the size of ping pong balls and perhaps some gusty winds.

The chance of rain in Jacksonville stands at about 30% this afternoon with higher rain chances to the south.

A healthy cold front is responsible for the storms Wednesday morning. It's that front that will mark stark changes in our temperatures heading into Thursday and Friday. Look for absolutely beautiful weather Thursday, Friday and into the weekend with high temperatures in the mid 70s with very low humidity.

We are currently monitoring the possibility of near record low temperatures on Friday morning with many areas dropping into the mid and upper 40s. The record in Jacksonville for Friday morning is 45° set in 1973.

Don't get overly excited about extended cool weather. Temperature are expected to quickly bounce back up to near 90 degrees by next week.
