Overnight flooding possible

Passing, slow-moving showers expected

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Columbia county is under a Flash Flood Watch due to heavy rainfall totals over the past 48 hours and anticipated overnight rain.  Most of Columbia County saw 3-4" of rain in the past two days, Southern Columbia County saw 5-9" of rain, and between Lake City and the city of Columbia saw 9-12" of rain.

Overnight, 3-4" of rain is possible, which may cause problems with flooding and roadways.

A trough of low pressure stretches from Southeast Georgia out into the Gulf of Mexico, resulting in a swath of heavy to moderate rainfall slowly pushing East through our area. Despite signs of weakening within the system- showers are expected to be widespread.

The overnight and morning rain will fade, leaving overcast skies for a few hours before another round of slow-moving heavy showers for the  afternoon. The intensity and dispersion of the rain should peak between 3:00pm and 6:00pm.

Flooding is a concern, and will be monitored closely, especially during the afternoon hours.


Temperatures began in the 70s and warm into the mid to upper 80s as the sun peeks between the clouds for most of the day. Rainfall totals could peak as high as 2'.
