Wild weather ride this week

Freezing start to Tuesday; Another freeze due Friday morning.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Expect a mixed bag of all sorts of weather this week. Let's take a look at this week's weather and how you'll need to prepare.

First, it's freezing outside, literally. A freeze warning was issued by the National Weather Service in preparation of Tuesday's freezing temps and some areas have indeed dropped to that level. As of 7 a.m., the temperature in Jacksonville was 32° with other areas flirting with freezing. Check out the departures from just 24 hours ago. Many areas have temperatures 30 degrees or more colder!

This is our seventh freeze of the season. Last season at this time, we had nine freezes so we're not too far off the mark.

The freeze warning expires at 9 a.m. Tuesday, but it won't be a warm afternoon. We're expecting the temperatures to remain in the mid to upper 50s today under mostly sunny skies behind a cold front that brought us the rain earlier in the week.

As we move into Wednesday, temperatures should begin to rebound back into the mid 60s but you'll notice an increase in clouds ahead of our next storm system which will likely bring rain into our region by Wednesday evening and into Thursday as well ahead of a strong cold front that will crater our temperatures heading into Friday.

If you have any outdoor plans for Wednesday, all should be okay. The first half of Wednesday remains dry, mainly before noon. However getting into Wednesday afternoon and evening, this is when things get dicey and wet.

The Canadian cold front is expected to push through Jacksonville early Thursday morning, as seen above in the big picture up top, making for a wet commute to work Thursday. The rain will end before noon and skies should begin to clear out. Winds will pick up out of the north and a breezy afternoon should set in.

Friday is looking nice with clearing skies and chilly with highs struggling to get out of the 40s for daytime highs.

Another freeze is possible, especially for inland locations, Friday night as high pressure settles in over our region.

Heading into the upcoming weekend, expect temperatures to warm back to above normal levels with partly cloudy skies.
