12-year-old girl took mom's car, went on joyride, Ocala police say
Officer says girl was doing 52 in 35-mph zone
OCALA, Fla. – Police say a 12-year-old girl is in big trouble after taking her mother's car and speeding down an Ocala road.
The girl was stopped by a police officer who was doing radar checks on Tuesday. Authorities say the girl gave the officer a fake name and age.
The Ocala Star-Banner reports the girl was going 52 in a 35-mph zone. The officer followed the vehicle and the girl stopped after several blocks. She told the officer she'd lost her license and didn't have the registration. She gave him a date of birth after thinking about it and asking a 15-year-old passenger if she had it right, police said.
She was taken to a juvenile detention center.
