A Washington state mother took matters into her own hands after someone broke into her home during a recent 911 outage.
Alicia Cappola of Everett told The Huffington Post she called 911 37 times trying to report the intruder late last week.
The outage lasted seven hours and affected all of Washington and parts of Oregon.
After banging on the door for 10 minutes, the man ripped the screen off Cappola's porch window and tried to come through.
But Cappola grabbed a knife and ran toward him, eventually convincing him to leave.
She finally got through to dispatchers an hour later.
Police arrived after the man had already left.
