Hotel sues guest for posting 'nasty' review

Reviewer claims hotel owner 'smokes weed'

A hotel has filed a defamation lawsuit against an anonymous reviewer in an attempt to stop him or her from posting again and further damaging the hotel's reputation.

The Ashley Inn, located in Lincoln City, Oregon filed the $74,500 suit less than a month after a negative review about the inn was posted on TripAdvisor under the username "12Kelly." According to Oregonlive.com, the reviewer claimed the "laundry and housekeeping are either high or drunk" and that the "breakfast is nasty, the rooms are nasty." The reviewer went on state that "the owner smokes weed."

The review has since been taken down.

The lawsuit states that once the identity of the reviewer is found, his or her name will be listed as the defendant.

Oregonlive.com reports that the Oregon Court of Appeals recently ruled that a an outdoor wedding venue could sue a wedding guest who posted a Google review that included the statement that attending the event was "The worst experience of my life!"
