Student sells ADD medication for bag of Cheez-Its

Student claims he sold the meds to 'help his fellow student'

A high school student was expelled for selling his ADD medication to another student in exchange for bags of Cheez-It crackers.

The Courthouse News Service reports that the 15-year-old former student at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in St. Charles, Illinois was expelled after getting caught selling the medication. The student's mother claims the expulsion was illegal and she has filed a lawsuit.

She contends that while he did receive payments for his prescription medication in the form of crackers, chips and a very small amount of cash, he actually sold the meds to "to help his fellow student do better in school." She also claims that his behavior was "likely a manifestation of his disability."

The students mother is also seeking an injunction prohibiting the school from expelling her son because of his disability.
