Celebrate St. Johns River ferry transition

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The transfer of ownership of the St. Johns River Ferry will be celebrated Saturday by the Jacksonville Transportation Authority, St. Johns River Ferry Commission, Friends of the Ferry and the city of Jacksonville.

The festivities, which will kick off in Mayport Village, will begin with an opening ceremony at noon.

The event includes music, a game truck, face painting, balloon art, a bounce house, food and drinks, in addition to complimentary rides on the ferry all day long.

City officials said parking for the event will be available at JTA's Park-n-Ride at Wonderwood and A1A and at Mayport Middle School at 2600 Mayport Road. Shuttles will provide free transportation to and from the lots from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The event will run until 5 p.m.
